Invisalign® First & Phase I Orthodontic Treatment: The Perfect Teeth Straightening Duo for Kids

At Davis Orthodontics, we are huge champions of the Invisalign® brand.

With its precise ability to shift a patients’ teeth into perfect alignment, the solution (combined with the treatment process) has produced many glowing smiles.

There’s even more to love about the solution itself. The name “Invisalign®” derives from the clear design of the aligners. The fact that they are see-through makes it possible for patients to wear them without them being seen.

There are many advantages for patients who wear aligners. There are few emergencies, speech is very good, and there are no food restrictions.

Specially molded with comfort and ease in mind, Invisalign® is one of the most minimally invasive approaches to teeth straightening.

Davis Orthodontics is proud to be an Invisalign® Gold Provider. And guess what? It’s not just for patients in their teen years and up.

Invisalign® solutions are available for patients of all ages, including our child patients.

Everything You Need to Know About Invisalign® First

There used to be a time when braces and metal-based appliances were the only teeth straightening solutions for children. Invisalign® First has ruled out that notion.

Invisalign® First serves as a suitable solution for kids in their first phase of orthodontic treatment. More specifically, children—between ages 7-11—who don’t have all their permanent teeth yet.

Created with SmartStage® and SmartForce® technology, Invisalign® First has the power to get a better handle on the permanent teeth as they emerge.

This gives us some headway to anticipate tooth shifts and dental arch-related complications throughout the treatment process.

Invisalign® First provides the ultimate level of support during the early stages of orthodontic treatment. This solution has led to stellar results on behalf of our younger patients.

Sometimes, braces are too big of a responsibility for children to handle. It becomes more of a challenge to practice good oral hygiene with wires in the way.

To top it all off, children—by nature—are less inclined to care for their teeth the way that they’re supposed to.

Metal braces only add to that burden, which makes Invisalign® First’s removable aligners even more of an appealing option.

There’s no one-size-fits-all solution for orthodontic care, especially where your child is concerned. Our orthodontists are here to help you choose the solution that’s best for him or her. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us.

How Phase I Orthodontic Treatment Works

According to The American Association of Orthodontists, age seven is the earliest (and latest) age that a child should go in for their first orthodontic examination.

While your child may still have their baby teeth at this age, we can still assess their future possible orthodontic needs.

We are also able to determine when it would be best for them to come back for their first treatment. If we see a need for immediate attention, we can begin treatment right away.

Major orthodontic issues could have a detrimental impact on your child’s teeth while they’re still growing. Early detection of these problems could minimize these issues during the growth stage.

As their jaws mature, Phase I orthodontic treatment supports the proper alignment of their incoming permanent teeth.

Preventative orthodontic care is best performed sooner than later. We believe that the early detection leads to a smoother treatment process for the child over time.

Invisalign® First treatment also begins during this first phase (with ideal end goals in mind).

For one, the Invisalign® First aligners are intended to provide your teeth with the space it needs to grow correctly. They’re also designed to shift your jaws into proper alignment.

The treatment leads to gradual improvements of the overall tooth structure. As time goes on, patients may witness corrections to their bites and positive adjustments to their smiles.

Phase I takes 12-15 months to complete (in a perfect world). Once they’re ready to move on to the next phase, patients are then provided with retainers to wear for the next six months to a year.

Retainers keep your teeth in place after the Invisalign® First aligners are permanently disposed of.
